Bankhead Camp 1
Marching or Temporary Camp
Bankhead Camp 1 – The whole of the south and west sides of this camp are known, together with about half of the north side and a short length of the east, making a reasonable estimate of its size to be made. There appears to be a centrally placed gateway with traverse in the short south side, and two similarly defended gates in the west side; these arrangements were presumably mirrored in the fragmentary north and east sides. There is a slight change of alignment in the west side at the south gateway, which must have resulted in a re-entrant angle at the corresponding gateway in the east side.
