Gelligaer Common Practice Camp 1 & 2
Practice Work
There are at least another five small camps nearby; four on gelligaer Common about 1¼ miles to the north of the fort and another along the old road, the ‘Heol Adam’, about 1½ miles to the north-west. All of these fortifications are much too small and are situated too close together to have served any tactical military purpose and have been categorised as ‘military practice works’, earthworks constructed by Roman troops on exercise.
The west camp is confirmed, but the verification on the eastern work is still a bit speculative.
