Topsham Fort

Major Settlement and Port

The Romano-British settlement and port at Topsham likely started life as the supply-port for Legio II Augusta, shortly after the legionary fortress was built at Exeter nearby c.55AD. It is possible, however, that Topsham was occupied in late-Claudian times, when an auxiliary fort is thought to have been erected at Exeter, prior to the construction of the fortress.
