Watchclose Camp

Marching or Temporary Camp

This small, squarish camp lies about 1,000 feet (c.300m) S of the Stanegate. Three gates with external tituli defensive outworks were positioned in the centre of the E, W & N sides with no gap in the S defences. The camp presumably faced N.

The Watchclose camp lies at the extreme south-western end of Carlisle Airport, partially overlaid by the main runway.
