Grindon Hill Temporary Camp
Marching or Temporary Camp
Grindon Hill Temporary Marching Camp is a small camp is a parallelogram in form and has gateways located centrally in all four sides; those to east and west having barely discernable external titulum earthworks. The whole area is obscured by medieval ‘ridge & furrow’ and levelled by modern farming.
Aside from the Stanegate camp here on Grindon Common, there are other camps about 1½ miles to the north close by Hadrian’s Wall at Grindon School and Coesike.
