Bury Walls Promontory Fort Iron Age? Weston-under-Redcastle   126(SJ:576275) NNE of Shrewsbury. 6.4km E of Wem and E of A49 in fine country above headwaters of the river Roden. Approach from Bury Farm. – A fine 5.5ha rectangular fort, it was protected by univallate defenses on its 3 steep sides, while the gentler N side has 2 banks and ditches, of which the inner is one of the biggest in Britain, standing 11m above its ditch. There is an inturned entrance cut into the rock at the NE corner; a spring inside at the NW corner, and another just outside the gate, ensured a water supply. There ere also traces of circular huts inside.

Bury Walls, hill-fort (SO/576275) 4 mils ESE of Wem (A5113, B5063), 1¾ miles E of Lee Brockhurst (A49). Reached via Bury Farm. – This site occupies the spur of a hill, its W and E sidesreceiving added protection from steep slopes. A rectangular area of 13½ acres is thus enclosed. An unusually stout bank follows the edges of the spur, in most places still 10 ft. high. Where the fort is approached by flat ground to the NE, there are 2 banks and ditches. The original entance is at the NE corner : it is in-turned, the passage throuh into the interior being cut deep into the living rock.
