Limestone Corner Temporary Camp

Marching or Temporary Camp

The Limestone Corner camp is located at the northern-most point of Hadrian’s Wall just behind (i.e. to the south) of the Vallum. The camp at Walwick Fell lies about a mile (1.7km) to the south-east.

This camp is not quite square, its dimensions being; N side (48 m), E (44 m), S (50 m) & W (49 m). There are four gates observable, one set in the middle of each side, all protected by external titulum earthworks, also the foundations of several interior buildings, which may point to the camp being occupied for more than a single campaign season.
