Walwick Fell Temporary Camp

Marching or Temporary Camp

This camp lies almost exactly half-way between the Hadrian’s Wall forts at Brocolitia (Carrawburgh) in the west and Cilurnum (Chesters) in the east. The camp at Limestone Corner lies just over a mile to the north-west.

Located some 330 yards (300m) SW of Hadrian’s Wall milecastle-29, this small square camp has four visible gateways, set more-or-less centrally in each of its sides, with external titulum defences recorded outside the NW, SW & SE portals. The camp is aforested with much of its defences obliterated by the roots of trees. A (modern?) stone quarry lies outside the NE defences.
