Mynydd-y-Fforest
Iron Age Hillfort
Mynydd-y-Fforest is a sub-circular enclosure, approximately 60m in diameter, located on a south-facing slope. It is defined by a bank and ditch, with counterscarps on the north and north-eastern sides. Adjacent to the hillfort, towards the east and downhill, is a rectilinear enclosure measuring about 200m along one side. The enclosure appears to be encircled by a single ditch and bank, although there are indications of a smaller ditch further beyond. A seasonal stream flows through the site from a spring located below the ramparts of the hillfort, but there is no clear evidence suggesting it to be a reservoir or having any direct connection with the enclosure.
