Burnhead Temporary Camp
Marching or Temporary Camp
Burnhead Temporary Marching Camp is almost rectangular and has four gateways; those set centrally in the north and the south defences are each protected by external tituli, while those in the east and west sides were displaced towards the north and were without extra defences; the camp therefore faced north. The southern half of the camp has an oblique traverse connecting the east and west ramparts thus creating an annexe which may have been post-Roman, as the southern part of this camp is marked by evidence of (later?) ridge and furrow cultivation.
