Lancing Down Temple
Temple Or Shrine
This temple lies 200 yards west of Lancing Ring. The portico measures about 46 feet square, the cella 22 feet square; the walls of the cella were around 3 feet thick, the portico walls about the same. There is evidence of buttressing at the angles of the outer wall. The temple faced east. Built in the 1st century, the temple remained in use until the 3rd. (Type Ic or Id, possibly IIc/d)
